This ingenious table will grow in diameter from 60" to 84" by the insertion of eight dart-shaped leaves. The Radial Table is entirely handcrafted in our New York cabinet shop and is available in a variety of traditional designs.
An outstanding example of fine cabinetwork, this beautiful Sheraton Radial Table was inspired by an ingenious mechanism designed and patented by Robert Jupe in 1835. During the mid-19th Century custom made versions, mostly of Victorian design, were produced by his London based firm of Johnstone, Jupe & Co. Those few antique tables that survived to today will fetch well into six figures at fine antique dealers and auction houses.
The tables are entirely handcrafted at our cabinet shop in Brooklyn, minutes from Manhattan. Shown here is our most popular model, the B-211 Sheraton Radial Table. It is made of highly figured mahogany, with crossbanding of rosewood and boxwood inly on the top and legs. The extension mechanism is made of stainless steel. The table is fitted with brass bun casters and leaf points.
To transform the table from seating a small party of six to as many as twelve simply turn the top counterclockwise. Eight pie-shaped sections radiate our from the center to allow the insertion of the dart-shaped leaves. The operation is so simple that literally a child can do it.
When not in use the leaves can be stored in a pedestal cabinet that can be used to support a vase, plant, or art object.
Recently a client brought us a photo of an antique Regency rosewood centre table and asked that we produce a Radial Table in its style. So involved was he with the project that he happily accepted our invitation to visit our cabinet shop and help select the rosewood veneers for the top. The end result was a magnificent table and a very pleased client.
Although we specialize in 18th and early 19th century English designs, our far reaching custom capabilities have enabled us to produce this table in 20th and 21st century contemporary designs, as well as certain larger sizes, by special order.
Client's own designs will gladly be considered.
