Queen Anne Furniture Style (1702 - 1714)
Refined proportions, a general lightness in appearance with more comfort than prior periods, Queen Anne style, although short, informs furniture design well past its era. Designs are characterized by curved lines, cabriole legs and cushioned seats all presented with minimal ornamentation.
Improved production methods allowed stretchers to not be necessary. Pierced back splats became more decorative. Carved motives included the scallop shell and acanthus leaves.
Sometimes referred to as Late Baroque, the Queen Anne style is marked by curving shapes, wing-back chairs and practical writing desks mostly realized in walnut.
